Unexpected light — Guiers Mort, oil on wood, Chartreuse

Painted en plein air, this painting captures a completely unforeseen moment: after three hours of work on site, light suddenly entered the cave, making the wet walls shine with an unexpected glow. A moment like this, impossible to anticipate, forces you to reorganise everything in a hurry so as not to let it slip away.

This original painting owes all its strength to this chance meeting between the darkness of the rock and a brief light — plein-air painting regularly offers this kind of surprise, rarely as spectacular as this one.
