07.01.2026 The Pendu stream in winter — Oil on canvas, studio

A scene of the Pendu, the little stream that flows in front of the studio in Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse — a familiar subject, observed through the seasons. On this January day in 2026 the cold was too biting to stay outside for long, so the painting was made entirely in the studio.

Working this way, at a distance from the subject but with its constant presence, gives a more measured interpretation of the scene — less of the urgency of plein air, more time to build the light and values, and to give in to the complex subtleties of details and textures.
